TRAVEL INSPIRED WEDDING

Excited! That’s what we felt when we were offered the chance to do our very first wedding decor. Two talented girls from Sunday & Sunflowers, Hanny & Nanath asked us to collaborate on a decor project for their friends, Nila and Zack. The keyword was travel. The mood would be simple pastel colors and a touch of vintage. We loved it.

So we said, YES!

We got a brainstorm session with the ladies from Sunday & Sunflowers. Based on the design they made for the wedding invitation, we decided to use maps, globes, and planes, as the key elements of the decor.

At the welcome area. We made 2 signboards from plywood. Painted them black, wrote the couple name with brush and white acrylic paint, then hung it to the pillar with dark brown grossgrain ribbon. Then a white tin vase filled with paper planes bouquet greeted the guest to enter the wedding reception. We printed an image of vintage map onto a canvas and lay it on the table, where every guest can pin a little peach-colored tag onto the canvas. The tag was meant to be travel wishes from the guests, marking some interesting places for Zack & Nila to visit in the future.

There were ten cities that were used as the theme for the table centerpieces. We made ten little city sets representing the icons or landmarks of the city that was well-known or have a special meaning for the couple. Every set has a flag with the city name on it, a polaroid photo of the groom and bride, and a simple origami photo holder (we’ll post the tutorial soon! promise! ;) )

In the Flores set,  we made pink sands using coarse salt and pink chalk. Then we add some books representing Taman Bacaan Pelangi, a local non-profit library initiated by Nila for the people of Flores (they got 24 other branches on other places of Eastern Indonesia. If you want to donate some books, maybe you could check the website). We also put a simple wooden block with a ring on it, because Flores was the place where Nila said “I do” ;)

For Chicago set, we tried to recreate a baseball theme set with lots of peanuts, mini balls, and a replica of Wrigley Field’s signboard.

We also collaborated with Pretty Party for the place cards, escort cards and menu design. Dea Adeline, the girl behind Pretty Party, created this beautiful yet simple design ensemble with a bit of vintage feel. Love it!

Then for photo corner area, we made some fake mustaches on a stick, paper glasses, and speech bubble pillows as the photo props. A big globe, Nanath’s vintage suitcase , hats, a framed quote, and a direction board made from wood plank decorated the photo area too.

We worked head over heels to get this decor done in a very short time. Juggled between crafting, working and babysitting (and updating the blog too, we’re sorry for a lack of content these last couple weeks). But it was all worth it. A truly a fun-filled decor project! Thank you so much Sunday & Sunflowers for inviting us to work on this project. Xx.

hearts,
